Sweeney todd is classified as a horror, drama and musical genre. Therefore the opening title sequence has to set up the theme of the movie. This particular screen shot credits the studios contribution towards the film. The background is black to express the dark and twisted story of the film.
This next screen shot shows the setting for the film. It is set London. Where the notorious Benjamin Barker had originally set up his barber shop. The shot shows the eerie darkness to emphasis Benjamin Barkers infamous story. The rain is for the dramatic effect, commonly used in horrors. It shows a few codes and conventions expected to be present in a horror. It creates suspense and tension within the audience.
This next shot helps emphasis and exaggerate the mood or theme of the film. However, it has been collaborated with the production company that contributed towards the development of the film. The text is written in white, which is a strange element due to the film is a horror, however so far within the opening title scene the audience have not been introduced to that factor.
These first few screen shots, show the dark lighting purposely used for specific reasons to link to a few codes and conventions of a horror film. The story is dark and deep, and therefore this is reflected in the colours and lighting.
This slide introduces the main star of the film. This has been specifically used to draw in the audience by using a big name actor, such as Johnny Depp as he is renowned world-wide.
The colours of the walls are blue and dirt stained which could suggest the deepened sadness within the main character as he has a haunted past which triggers his future horrific actions. The photo-frame on the wall is also bloodstained.
