Pitch, Brainstorm and Treatment

Individual idea - Thriller opening

This particular task contributes towards one of the main projects: create a two minute opening of a thriller film. This task was necessary to complete individually due to the expression of our own different ideas. Each participant of the group has each conducted their own thriller opening pitch in order to combine ideas and inspirations when we initially plan the production of our own opening thriller sequence.
Consisted within this task was being able to conduct the appropriate characters, plot, sub-genres, settings and scenes suitable. Two elements of subgenres that will need to be interpreted correctly would be filming and editing as this links to mise-en-scene and cinematography.

Treatment

The animated video featured above was an addition to this task due to i wanted to make this task more creative, however in this explanation I have exceeded more content for understanding the reasons behind my ideas purpose.

Sub-genre: After excessive research on the differences between subgenres, it became apparent that my strongest sub-genre would be crime. Crime thrillers focus on criminals and their activities revolving around the illegal stunt they are about to pull off. Another element that makes a crime thriller more of a realistic challenge compared to the other subgenres is that the crime thriller will be more easier to make on a low budget such as ours.

Characters: After excessive research, it is apparent what characters are needed to fulfill the mise-en-scene elements that link to the expectations of the crime thriller. In my thriller the characters consist of:
- A convicted criminal prison escapee
- A Lawyer
- The murderer
- The victim
- Gang
- A Dury
- Police officers

I also require natural characters (ordinary people) to fill in the backgrounds of the crowded streets of London. Thrillers are set in cities, therefore my thriller must meet theses expectancies and be filmed in a rural city.

Plot: The plot of my crime thriller consists of a wrongly convicted prison escapee with a pent-up range and hunger for revenge against those who framed him. He was convicted of murder. However, the blood was not on his hands but on an unexpected suspect's, that will shock the audience and create an explosive climax as they are repeatedly fed clues in order to subconsciously solve the enigma codes themselves. The narrative will be set in non-linear due to the reoccurring flashbacks will include the clues they will need in order to answer the enigma codes. The convicted prison escapee, Danny Angelo, former member of a gang responsible for a huge drugs scandal. Betrayed by his fellow gang members when a drug bust goes wrong resulting in the murder of two corrupt police officers and a regular buyer. The narrative continuously replays flashbacks and scenes of violence and past events leading to the explosive climax where the audience metaphorically stand face to face with the unexpected mysterious killer... a corrupt police officer, David obeyi, allegedly his alli and best friend before and during his imprisonment.

Inspiration: My inspiration for this film is Christopher Nolan, due to i admire and i am particularly interested in his unique style of directing. He is the main influence behind my individual idea for a crime thriller film and the style of it. However, the non-linear narrative could reflect some inspiration i have drawn from the Butterfly effect directed by Eric Bress and J.Mackye Grubber.
